Perhaps more than at any time before, the public sector is under the spotlight from all directions. There are those from outside the sector who may be considering options to work within or with it, often for the first time. And then there are those from within, who are charged with striving for yet more, but with less and less resource, year on year.
Unemployment, worklessness, apprenticeships, an ageing workforce, budget cuts, brand pre-conceptions, media profile on service issues, equal pay, data, security, eligibility, FOI and diversity agendas.
Clearly difficult times demand difficult choices. Is this a time for a safe pair of hands and familiar names?
Or, as increasingly evidenced by a number of ‘early adopter' and beacon organisations, is this the time to step up and embrace the opportunities to radically change perceptions of the public sector? To utilise customisable, web-based technologies and digital solutions that do not require substantial capital investment, or protracted procurement initiatives. And to engage in dialogue with those who have experience of both the old ways and the new in Resourcing; but are wedded to neither. And can recommend either, or both, according to circumstance and budget.
Difficult choices? This is the time to consider the flea.
"Review, review, review. What parts of Resourcing do you excel at, and where does it let you and your employer brand down? It's time to sort out your "let downs"."
